This tiny, delicate drawing in carbon pencil over an ultramarine watercolor wash contains the chill air of a late fall afternoon. The trees are rendered in elegant gesture – yet with precise details. When one tries to draw such a thing, it is easy to fall into the fussy and overwrought, or into the glibly approximate, but this drawing does neither. The economy and scrutiny present in the act of looking are admirable and are testament to a lifetime spent scrutinizing the structures beyond the surface.
("Murder" is the collective for a group of crows, like a "gaggle" of geese.)
