Using a kind of contemporary alchemy, Tom Cramer's wood panels combine drawing, painting, carving, and gilding. Yet, the effortless beauty of his luscious surfaces belies the months of work that lie behind the creation of each composition. The artist likens his abstracted imagery to landscapes in which human inner states correspond to the unknown cosmic dimensions of space and time. Cramer, whose early works included funky totem sculptures, painted cars, and murals, received his BFA from the Pacific Northwest College of Art, and also studied at the Pratt Institute in New York.
