Frank Boyden is perhaps best known for his extraordinary ceramic pieces, on whose surfaces he scratches and etches the flora and fauna of his native Oregon. But he is also a renowned printmaker and a sculptor who has been casting his works in bronze since 1989. As Boyden notes, his sculpture, which he considers public art, is always conceived specifically for the site it will occupy: in this case, Boyden was responding to the science classes that take place in Building 7. Boyden received degrees from Colorado College and Yale University. In 1970, he founded Sitka Center for Art and Ecology.
