How many credits do I need in order to transfer to a 4-year school?
Updated October 12, 2022
It usually takes a minimum of 36 quarter credits (or 24 semester credits) of 100 or 200 level courses to transfer to a university under transfer admission guidelines but this varies from school to school. Transfer admission usually allows students to skip the SAT/ACT and other criteria required for students who go to the university right out of high school. Contact your transferring institution for their specific transfer credit requirement and transfer admission policy.
If you would like to transfer with junior status, you will need to transfer with a minimum of 90 quarter credits (or 60 semester credits). Some schools outside of Oregon require students to have junior status before transferring. Check with your transferring school about how many community college credits they will allow you to transfer in.
