Updated October 12, 2022

Each school has a unique name that they refer to as General Education (GE). For example, Oregon State University calls their GE, Baccalaureate Core. Portland State calls theirs University Studies and University of Oregon calls theirs Group Requirements.

General Education usually consists of a set number of classes in?various?subjects from the?categories?of Arts and Letters, Social Science, and Math and Science. These courses will enrich your understanding of the diversity of human experience so that you may approach your major with a wider world view.

PCC is a great place to begin completing your lower division (100 and 200 level) GE courses. Each school will have different requirements and minimum number of credits needed to complete GE. General Education requirements for your transferring school can be found on their web site or in their college catalog. You can also pick up this information?for most Oregon schools by visiting the?PCC University Transfer website?. The Associate of Arts Oregon Transfer (AAOT) degree automatically satisfies the lower division GE requirements for any of Oregon’s 7 Public Universities, but meet with an advisor to determine what transfer option best fits your academic goals.
