Do I have to know my major before I transfer to a four year school?
Updated October 10, 2022
You don’t have to, but it is in your best interest to have an idea. Most colleges require that you declare a major when you are a junior.
If you postpone making a decision, you run the risk of taking courses that may not be required down the road, or worse–not fulfilling courses that are required for the university. Some university majors have a long list of prerequisites that should be fulfilled in the first two years of college. It is best to work with a career counselor and an academic advisor early in your college experience to help choose a major and take courses that make the most efficient use of your time and money.
