What is a grace period?

The federal government gives you six to nine months after you leave school before you have to begin repaying your student loans. The grace period begins when you drop below six credits, graduate, or withdraw from college. For Direct Stafford Loans, the grace period is six months. Other loan programs have different lengths and conditions.
