Student Spotlight: Meet Erick, A Dreamer Achiever!
Posted by katie.weibel
Today, we are thrilled to highlight Erick Tovar, an exceptional student whose journey with Portland Community College Career Pathways & STEP program exemplifies the transformative impact of dedicated mentorship and educational opportunities.
Erick’s path began at PCC OMIC Training Center as a Dreamer, where he met our coach, David Poole. Erick said, “No one had ever approached me with the idea of school or college as a thing. David wanted to present that. He said he can get me on a path to wherever it is I want to go – he will support me. I just need to do the work. I told him, ‘I can work, man!'”
It only took one term in the Pre-Apprenticeship and Advanced Manufacturing Career Pathways Certificate for Erick to land an internship! Currently he is progressing through Portland Community College‘s rigorous Electronic Engineering Technology (EET) program with plans to pursue a Bachelor’s degree at Oregon Institute of Technology, Erick has also secured full-time employment at Microchip Technology Inc..
“That’s the amount of potential that this program really has! You can do a lot of great things from that experience. It’s a great time for anyone to try this thing out. I got straight A’s – a 4.0 and I didn’t know I could be a good student. That’s something I learned from OMIC and I carry that attitude with me. This program was my launching pad.” – Erick
Erik’s journey is a testament to the power of mentorship and the impactful role that programs like PCC’s Career Pathways and STEP play in fostering student success.
As Erick continues to excel and prepares to complete his Associate’s degree while looking ahead to his Bachelor’s journey, we celebrate his accomplishments and the continued support of OMIC’s educational community. Erik’s story inspires us all, showcasing the potential for achievement when paired with unwavering support and innovative educational pathways.
Congratulations, Erick, on your remarkable journey thus far, and we eagerly anticipate your future successes in engineering and beyond! ??
