Empowering Futures: PCC Career Pathways & STEP Coach Maylorie!
Posted by katie.weibel
We are thrilled to spotlight Maylorie Townsend, who has dedicated nine impactful years to Portland Community College and currently serves with the Portland Community College Career Pathways & STEP team. Her journey began in new student support and has touched essential areas like financial aid and TANF, embodying a commitment to student success at every turn.
Maylorie’s passion for serving marginalized communities was sparked by her mother’s pioneering efforts in Portland’s non-profit sector, empowering teen parents to overcome generational barriers of poverty and trauma. This inspiration fuels Maylorie’s dedication to supporting individuals striving for a brighter future despite adversity.
Recently, Maylorie played a vital role in a grant initiative at Columbia River Correctional Institute (CRCI) that provides incarcerated individuals with access to education and training, paving the way for meaningful, family-supporting careers upon release. Her words resonate deeply: “I find it so rewarding to support folks in breaking cycles of poverty. That’s why I was drawn to the work of the PCC Career Pathways & STEP team – ‘a poverty prevention program’.”
Beyond her invaluable work at PCC, Maylorie enriches our community as a steadfast presence at the Oregon Country Fair, a cherished tradition for over 35 years.
Thank you, Maylorie, for your unwavering commitment to our students and community. Your dedication is truly inspiring!
