??Meet David: A Beacon of Support in the Portland Community College Career Pathways & STEP Program??

At?PCC Career Pathways & STEP, we are incredibly fortunate to have dedicated coaches like?David, whose passion for student success shines through in everything he does. David’s journey with Portland Community College began in 1994, when he took his first class while incarcerated at Columbia River Correctional Institute (CRCI). After becoming sober and completing his time at CRCI, David returned to PCC, eventually transferring to Reed College and later becoming a?drug and alcohol counselor.

David’s commitment to supporting students, particularly those facing significant challenges, is what makes him a standout member of our team. He’s worked in numerous roles—from counseling at?Outside In?to advising in drug courts, meth clinics, and programs for homeless youth. Since 2022, David has been the PCC OMIC Training Center Career & College Success Coach?on our team, and his impact has been remarkable.

In his role, David provides holistic support to students, helping them overcome obstacles and guiding them toward their career and academic goals. Whether through one-on-one advising, advocating for programs like those?PCC?runs in local jails and prisons, or being a club advisor on campus, David consistently shows up for his students. The students I’ve spoken with all describe him as a lifeline—someone who listens, encourages, and believes in their potential.

As David himself says: ??“I get to help people change their lives. This is the best job ever.”???“PCC has changed my life.”???“My touchdown is when the students get a job.”

Thanks to coaches like David, our students aren’t just getting an education—they’re finding support, empowerment, and the tools they need to thrive in their careers and beyond. The success stories and job placements that result from David’s work truly speak for themselves.

We’re so proud of the amazing staff at?PCC Career Pathways & STEP?who make a difference every day. Thank you, David, for all you do!
