Christian Kaylor is a Workforce Economist for the Oregon Employment Department, specializing in the Portland area. He provides data analysis and advice relating to the Portland economy to local businesses, business associations, and government agencies to facilitate intelligent decision-making. A native Oregonian, Christian has a degree in economics from the University of Oregon.

The types of jobs in human services and the level of education can vary and be confusing. We’ll talk about jobs in social services, mental health, sociology, social work, human services, alcohol and drug counseling, criminal justice, gerontology, and psychology. These careers can allow you to work on issues of homelessness, food insecurity, LGBTQIA+, and many others. We’ll unpack majors and programs. We’ll have a special guest from Multnomah County to talk about the job application process and provide time for questions and answers at the end.

Mock Interview: Live Webinar
Practice, practice, practice makes perfect, right? How do you do that and get feedback for an interview in a safe and non-threatening manner? This workshop! A mock interview is a practice interview that allows the interviewee to create effective responses. This workshop will provide group work to map out what to say, 1:1 interview coaching, and supportive feedback as you “test drive” your answers to some of the most common questions.

General Scholarship Webinar

Learn tips for filling out a competitive scholarship application for the PCC Foundation, OSAC scholarship, and Ford Family Foundation scholarships. And finally, learn where to get support at PCC for help writing scholarship essays. Most local and Oregon scholarships opened in November and December and are due March 1.
Transferring to a Four-Year University
Join us for a panel discussion on transferring to a university from a community college. Hear from transfer admissions representatives, PCC staff, and PCC graduates who have transferred. The panel will share tips and tricks on how to transfer, how to get involved at your new school, and common mistakes to avoid. The first hour will be a presentation with panelists and the second hour will be breakout sessions by college so you can get more specific information from colleges you are interested in like PSU, Pacific, and OSU.

This online meeting will include a presentation unpacking jobs and what jobs pay! Followed by a 1/2 hour conversation and Q&A with students and guests. Kathleen Janicki, an instructor, was a strong voice in our first session; we love that! We’ll discuss the associate’s degree level and the bachelor’s degree level in specialties including accounting, finance, advertising, business technology, human resources management, management and leadership, marketing, and supply and logistics management. We’ll talk about career paths, technology, transfers, and what to do if you want to work for one of the big four accounting firms.
