Course Description
Covers analysis and evaluation of materials and products utilized in the interior design profession. Focuses on the properties, cost, sustainability and installation of materials. Prerequisites: ID 100, ID 131, and (WR 115 and RD 115) or IRW 115 and MTH 20 or equivalent placement.
Intended Outcomes for the course
Upon completion of the course students should be able to:
- Present a formal design solution that involves industry-standard verbal, visual, and written communication skills.
- Identify the basic characteristics of a variety of floor coverings.
- Research the properties of materials.
Course Activities and Design
This course will be presented by means of lecture, discussion, demonstrations, and visuals. The student's grade will be determined by a combination of class assignments, testing, and class participation.
Outcome Assessment Strategies
- Conduct research using comparison shopping strategies to determine quality features of case good and upholstered furniture.
- Apply appropriate concepts to measuring of window treatments and floor coverings.
- Create and present a 30 minute classroom teaching experience using verbal, visual and written communication tools on a floor covering topic.
