Course Description
Covers skills required for addiction counseling of individuals. Emphasizes in-class practice and feedback. Prerequisites: AD 120E, AD 121E, and AD 122E. Audit available.
Intended Outcomes for the course
Upon successful completion of the course students should be able to:
- Identify transference and countertransference in client and clinician relationships.
- Use active listening strategies and techniques to engage with clients.
- Counsel clients with substance use disorders individually.
- Make constructive responses to client’s reactions and responses.
- Apply key components of client-centered, culturally-responsive, and trauma-informed individual addiction counseling.
