Course Description

Focuses on alternating current power distribution, transformers, motors, storage cells, solid state semiconductor devices, and Delta/Wye three phase motor winding connections as applied to the heavy industrial environment. Prerequisites: APR 122. Audit available.

Intended Outcomes for the course

Upon successful completion of the course students should be able to:

  1. Use the general theories of both alternating current flow and direct current flow in conductors to discuss, explain, and apply the electrical principles of power distribution, transformers, motors, batteries, and solid state semiconductor devices as applied to subsequent courses and the workplace.
  2. Read, interpret, and apply schematic drawings to the repair and installation of electrical circuits and equipment.
  3. Demonstrate familiarity of industry terminology.*
  4. Demonstrate safe working conditions in accordance with state and federal regulations.*
  5. Use test equipment to make electrical measurements.*
  6. Demonstrate appropriate use and care of trade specific equipment.*

Course Activities and Design

The instructor utilizes a lecture type format to expose the students to fundamental industrial wiring and mechanisms.
 

Outcome Assessment Strategies

Procedures will be discussed at the first class session and the instructor's grading policy will be referenced on the class syllabus.

A Pass - No/Pass grading option is not available for any APR (Apprenticeship) course.
