Course Description
Beginning literacy and other academic skills related to personal, family, work, and community needs. These skills are the foundation for developing higher-level employability skills.
Intended Outcomes for the course
In personal, family, employment, and community settings, the student will:
- Apply improved communication skills (reading, listening, speaking, writing)
- Estimate and compute personal needs involving whole numbers, simple measurements, and money
- Solve problems and make decisions using multiple and effective strategies
- Access very basic information through a variety of life skill resources
- Continue life-long learning by participating in educational opportunities when possible
- Use the computer for basic word processing and internet activities
- Compute math problems using a calculator
Outcome Assessment Strategies
- Complete assignments by following oral and written instructions at appropriate level
- Given a group problem to solve, participate and interact appropriately within a group setting
- Write a coherent 25-150 word composition on a given topic
- Pass a standardized adult reading tests at CASAS 221 or above, or G.E. 6.0 or above
- Pass a CASAS math test at 221 or higher, complete a teacher generated post-test
- Complete a computer-based assignment
- Complete a post-test of math word problems using a calculator
