Course Description

Class offers instruction for adults who wish to improve skills in reading, math, and writing, or who wish to prepare for the State GED Examination.

Intended Outcomes for the course

In personal, family, employment and community settings the student will

  • Use writing as a communication tool
  • Comprehend and interpret a variety of reading materials
  • Apply math systems to daily life situations
  • Plan for employment and life skills development
  • Use GED Certificate to go to college or get job or improve skills
  • Use the computer for basic word processing and internet activities
  • Compute math problems using a calculator

Outcome Assessment Strategies

  • Write a letter or an essay that earns a CASAS holistic score of 4 or higher
  • Take and pass a CASAS reading post-test and improve one level or pass the GED
  • Take and pass a CASAS math post-test and improve one level or pass the GED

  • Take ASSET or COMPASS test if college bound
  • Complete a computer-based assignment
