Course Description

Focuses on diversity of populations using addiction counseling services. Emphasizes developing understanding of relevant cultural differences and building skills in addressing them. Audit available.

Intended Outcomes for the course

Upon successful completion of the course students should be able to:

  1. Identify historical and current practices within the helping profession.
  2. Summarize key concepts used in effective multicultural counseling.
  3. Describe strategies for reducing barriers to treatment.
  4. Identify research methods used in culturally-responsive care.
  5. Articulate how one’s culture and worldview impacts behavioral dynamics.
