Course Description
Addendum to Course Description
This course will instruct students in utilizing the BOLI website to review apprenticeship responsibilities, and standards as well as seek the different classifications of construction trades.

- Identify general safety and health techniques.
- Identify typical health and safety hazards on construction sites.
- Demonstrate electrical safety procedures, lockout/tagout.
- Identify signs, signals, and barricades.
- Demonstrate proper overhead protection.
- Demonstrate proper use and storage of common hand and power tools.
- Demonstrate proper tool maintenance and storage procedures.
- Identify various types of heavy construction equipment and their uses.
- List tasks performed on construction projects.
- Identify basic elements of construction plans.
Course Activities and Design
Course Activities and Design
Classes will be presented in a lecture, lec/lab and lab discussion format and will provide safety and background knowledge necessary for successful completion of this course. Students will utilize the internet for apprenticeship background knowledge and responsibilities.
Outcome Assessment Strategies
Students will be assessed according to their performance on in-class exercises, homework projects, applications of concepts and skills as well as quizzes. Assessment will also be based on their individual and group participation. Procedures will be addressed at the first class session. The instructor’s specific grading policy will accompany class handouts.
