Course Description

Instructs the electrical professional where and how to find required information in the NEC book, demonstrating how the various articles work together to provide complete information on a subject. Most code articles (90 through 450) will be explained in detail. This class can be used towards Continuing Education Units for Oregon State electrical licensing purposes. APR 230 and ELT 230 cannot both be taken for credit. Audit available.

Addendum to Course Description

This course prepares working electrical apprentices for the Oregon Electricians Licensing examination. The current year's electrical code book is a major focus of class discussion.

Intended Outcomes for the course

Intended Outcomes for the Course

  1. Demonstrate knowledge of the National Electrical Code and it's relationship to Oregon requirements.
  2. Demonstrate a working familiarity with the intricacies of grounded as well as grounding conductors.
  3. Demonstrate a working familiarity with the 80/20 rule as it is applied to wiring design.
  4. Demonstrate knowledge of the requirements for electrical installations in terms of equipment, conditions and proper procedure.
  5. Demonstrate knowledge of the requirements for acceptable grounding methods utilizing various types of pipe.
  6. Demonstrate familiarity with NFPA sections to code 511 to 88 A-B, and all underwriters books.
  7. Demonstrate an understanding of transformers as required for specific industrial needs.
  8. Demonstrate knowledge of motor types and their requirements in industrial usage.
  9. Demonstrate knowledge of common services and familiarity with trade vernacular.

Classes will be presented in a lecture/discussion format.

Outcome Assessment Strategies

Procedures will be discussed at the first class session and the instructor's grading policy will be referenced on the class syllabus.

A Pass - No/Pass grading option is not available for any APR (Apprenticeship) course.
