Course Description
Intended Outcomes for the course
To carry out building construction tasks requiring reliable differential leveling, calculation of horizontal and vertical angles and generation and interpretation of contour maps.
Clearly and concisely document fieldwork, in a Transit Notebook
Outcome Assessment Strategies
1. Complete 4 " Field Labs" in which learners will work collaboratively with at least one other student to gather the information necessary to generate a plot plan. Learners will perform accurate measuring, differential leveling, turning of horizontal and vertical angles, and collection of contour data.
2. Learners will sketch a plot plan complete with property corner elevations, interior angles, bearings, and title block.
3. Learners will individually successfully complete two written "Mastery Projects" covering the concepts, themes and issues of the course.

1. Set-up and use an auto level and total station.
2. Measure distances using pace, stadia, tacheometry, and steel tape.
3. Write legible notes in a surveyor’s journal.
4. Interpret, add, subtract and convert azimuths and bearings.
5. Understand and use basic right angle trigonometry.
6. Measure vertical elevations by completing a leveling loop
7. Accurately measure horizontal angles in the field
8. Convert interior angles to bearings and bearings to interior angles.
9. Set-up full scale field grid and collect contour data
10. Sketch a plot plan with contour lines
