Course Description
Introductory class in construction estimating concentrating on basic commercial estimating techniques. Using plans for a light commercial building, students will learn: how to organize and prepare estimates, quantity take-off and pricing, and the fundamentals of bid assembly.
Intended Outcomes for the course
- Perform thorough and accurate material takeoffs on commercial construction projects
- Perform thorough and accurate labor estimates on commercial construction projects
- Price materials and labor on commercial construction projects
Outcome Assessment Strategies
- Individually demonstrate thorough and accurate material and labor takeoffs by completing two "Mastery Projects"
- Work collaboratively to calculate labor, material quantities, and unit costs
- Individually research and price alternate materials
