Course Description

Covers formatting, proofreading, and editing to produce business documents such as professional reports, meeting & events materials, and business letters utilizing a variety of software technologies. Focuses on improving and increasing speed and accuracy of keyboarding skills for document production. Recommended: Placement into RD 115 and WR 115 or higher; OS 220; keying 40 wpm by touch. Audit available.

Intended Outcomes for the course

Upon completion of the course students will be able to:

  1. Use appropriate software to quickly and accurately produce business documents following professional industry standards.
  2. Use critical thinking skills to analyze information for production of business documents, and determine and integrate software technologies for the formatting structure best suited to convey information in a professional manner.

Outcome Assessment Strategies

A letter grade will be issued for this course.  Assessment tasks include:

  • Production tests on business documents
  • Must also include at least one other assessment, such as:
    5-minute timed writings at a speed of 45 wpm with no more than 5 errors ("C" level)
    Graded daily assignment reviews
    Integrated projects
