Course Description
This 8-hour module covers considerations for trauma assessment and care, expanding into a review of shock and sepsis. Discussion and case situations highlight understanding pathophysiology and up-to-date therapies.
Intended Outcomes for the course
At the end of this Module, participants will be able to: 1) perform a baseline trauma exam and history on patients of varying ages, 2) diagnose their critical injuries and potential for death using critical thinking, 3) stage patients as SIRS, Sepsis, Severe Sepsis or Septic Shock, 4) Recognize the primary pathophysiologic changes that separate sepsis from other forms of shock, 5) Implement adequate fluid volume in a patient with septic shock and 6) develop a nursing care approach to the patient's condition.
