Course Description

Specialized sections may focus on specific career areas to meet major program requirements. Some sections may include portfolio development, technical testing or other career-specific job search techniques.
Intended Outcomes for the course
Students who successfully complete this course will be able to:
1. Continually develop and revise appropriate job search plans and materials.
2. Prepare for and execute effective informational and job interviews.
3. Continue to self identify career opportunities and target specific jobs that match current skills and career goals.
Outcome Assessment Strategies
Students will demonstrate these learning outcomes by these tasks conducted individually and in cooperation with other students:
- Identify and summarize specific job openings and application processes in written and oral form.
- Demonstrate research skills that utilize printed and electronic company and career information.

- In-class/on-line participation demonstrating knowledge of the subject matter, including effective interviewing techniques.
Course Content (Themes, Concepts, Issues and Skills)
Competencies and Skills:
A. Identification of personal Job Skills
- List and describe work history and work-related activities, and prior education, training and certifications.
- Identify job-specific, adaptive and transferable skills.
B. Identification of Job Qualifications
- Recognize resources for researching companies and jobs.
- Locate and research a professional position. Describe position title, duties and qualifications.
- Draft and revise appropriate job search materials, such as applications, resumes and cover letters.
C. Demonstrate Understanding of the Interview Process
- Recognize patterns of typical job interviews. Exhibit appropriate responses to sample interview questions.
D. Demonstrate Understanding of the Overall Job Search Process
- Describe major elements of job search, including skills identification, company/job research, application materials development, contact strategies, successful interviewing techniques, and job success.
