Course Description
Provides an opportunity to work independently on an individualized area of study within chemistry under the sponsorship of chemistry faculty.
Intended Outcomes for the course
Upon successful completion students should be able to:
- use the scientific method to research a chemistry topic with the guidance of a mentor.
- explicate a chemistry topic so that it can be effectively researched in the scientific literature
- conduct a search of the scientific literature to investigate a chemistry topic
- evaluate how a chemistry topic connects with current environmental and/or global change and/or sustainability concerns
- communicate the results of chemistry research effectively using written and/or oral formats.
Outcome Assessment Strategies
Ideally, the student would take the 3 term sequence (CH298B and C course proposal to follow upon approval of this course) and present data at an undergraduate research conference.
