Course Description

Provides the foundation to build real-world, browser independent, web applications using client-side technologies including HTML, DHTML, Cascading Stylesheets and Javascript. Although the primary focus is on W3C Standards, Internet Explorer and Netscape specific extensions are discussed. A functioning website is built using the content presented in the course. Recommended: Proficiency in a modern programming language (CIS 133B, 133J or CS 161); or instructor permission. Audit available.

Intended Outcomes for the course

On successful completion of this course the student should be able to:

Ï     Design and implement web-based client/server information applications

Ï     Use standard HTML, DHTML, CSS and JavaScript for client development

Ï     Use database connectivity for server-side development

Course Activities and Design

This course will be presented by whatever means the current instructor views as viable for student learning .

Students will be required to apply subject matter covered in this course and prerequisite courses to complete the project assignments in a timely and professional manner.

Students will be expected to complete projects that include the following:

Ï       implement database connectivity

Ï       Understand and Implement Cascading Style Sheets 

Ï       Utilize DHTML for interactive Web Sites

Ï       Read and Write Cookies

Ï       Validate HTML Forms before Server Submittal using Javascript
