Course Description
This course provides an overview of correctional treatment within the criminal justice system. It provides insight into the role and purpose of effective correctional treatment strategies and programs, including the responsibilities of providers and clients. Audit available.
Addendum to Course Description
Students attending this course study the proper use of correctional treatment programs
and techniques. Included are various diagnostic methods and prescriptive treatment
modalities. In addition, involvement by the community organizations is reviewed, as they
are a required element in support of successful client outcomes.

Intended Outcomes for the course
At the completion of the course, students will be able to describe:
1. The need for correctional treatment for criminal justice clients;
2. The role of provider in the correctional treatment process;
3. The role of the client, including personal empowerment during treatment;
4. The importance of community education and involvement;
5. The laws and standards associated with correctional treatment services.
6. The role of treatment contracts between the client and provider.
7. The importance of outcome goals and the involvement of the court.

Outcome Assessment Strategies
At the beginning of the course the instructor will detail the methods used to assess
student performance m d the criteria used to arrive at the student's final grade; i.e. class
participation, attendance, quizzes/examinations, assignments, and the research paper.

This course will allow students to address topics that include, but are not limited to:
1. The purpose of professional correctional treatment programs;
2. The appropriate relationship between the client and the treatment provider;
3. The role of the court in the client's involvement in treatment programs;
4. The client's personal empowerment for successful treatment outcomes;
5. The role and relationship between the community and clientele.
