Course Description

Introduces fundamentals of tap dance technique and vocabulary. 欧洲杯决赛竞猜app_欧洲杯足球网-投注|官网s a sense of timing, rhythm, and musicality. Emphasizes basic traditional tap steps, rhythm tap combinations and complete dances. D 175A and PE 186K are equivalent and only one may be taken for credit. Audit available.

Addendum to Course Description

Combined classes are limited to two levels.  Class meeting times are not to exceed 110 minutes per day.

Course Content (Themes, Concepts, Issues and Skills)

  1. Principles of Basic Tap Dance Technique:
  2.  Warm up sequences
  3. Single sound tap steps: rudiments
  4. Shuffles, flaps and simple combinations
  5. Foot, body and arm positions; weight changes
  6. Moving steps and combinations
  7. Connecting steps to create dances
  8. Improvisation as a learning and choreographic tool
  9. Spatial awareness
  10. Dance class structure and classroom etiquette
  11. Concepts of rhythm and musicality:
  12. Learn musical counting of tap steps
  13. Synchronize tap steps to music
  14. Acapella tapping, synchronizing tap sounds
  15. Listening skills: to music, solo tap sounds, group tap sounds
  16. Explore tempo changes, accents, syncopation, and silence
  17. Explore time steps: single, double, triple
  18. Explore a variety of musical styles: jazz, blues, swing, funk, waltz etc.
  19. Improvisation: counting musical bars, when to start and end 
  20. SKILLS/COMPETENCIES:
  21. Identify and demonstrate understanding of single sound tap steps (rudiments), multiple sound tap steps, and time steps.
  22. Successfully execute clean, clear tap sounds
  23. Execute beginning tap dance combinations
  24. Demonstrate the traditional tap routine The Shim Sham
  25. Perform travelling tap dance steps
  26. Recognize a variety of musical styles: jazz, blues, swing, funk, waltz etc.
  27. Demonstrate complete tap dances
  28. Participate in tap improvisation
  29. Coordinate foot sounds with arm and body movements
