Course Description
Addendum to Course Description
This course will continue the lab experiences introduced in DH 104. Students will provide dental hygiene care to their student partners and to PCC patients. Services include assessment, treatment planning, scaling and polishing, fluoride applications and appropriate oral care instructions. This will also include integration of oral prophylaxis classifications, current non-surgical periodontal therapy, alternative oral physiotherapy aids, dental hygiene process of care and school clinic policies and procedures. Students will also have opportunities to integrate their knowledge of oral physiotherapy aids, dental prostheses and fluoride treatment modalities when educating patients.
Intended Outcomes for the course
1. Provide intermediate (level 1) dental hygiene
care to patients who present with minimal disease
symptoms.
2. Integrate knowledge of oral physiotherapy aids,
oral chemotherapeutics and fluorides into patient
education.
3. Integrate the use of power instrumentation and
area-specific instrumentation into patient care.
Outcome Assessment Strategies

Complete seven clinical patient cases with 75 % accuracy or better.
- Complete required clinical objectives for the term.
- Complete a test case at 75% or better.
