Course Description
Provides a basic introduction to restorative dentistry, focusing on theory and practical skills needed for dental hygiene restorative patient care. Focuses on dental materials, techniques, and procedures used in restorative dentistry and caries management in preparation for hands-on laboratory activities.
Intended Outcomes for the course
Upon successful completion of the course students should be able to:
- List restorative instruments and explain their uses in dental restorative procedures.
- Explain the cavity preparation process and how it differs with each restorative material.
- Explain the rationale for the placement of restorative materials, including liners, bases, and caries management materials.
- Review various matrix systems used in restorative dentistry and explain the situations in which each type is employed.
- Recognize different types of handpieces and dental burs used in restorative dentistry, and describe their specific applications.
