Course Description
Intended Outcomes for the course
Upon completion of the course students will be able to:
- Select proper oil grades, viscosities, and additive packages for Caterpillar Engines.
- Measure and evaluate temperatures and pressures throughout the oil and air systems of an operating engine.
- Calculate coolant temperature and pressure differential across an engine or radiator.
- Evaluate horsepower and fuel rates.
- Determine the effects on an engine’s set point, horsepower, and boost as a result of changing fuel settings, high idle, and timing.
- Measure and adjust dynamic timing advance on a mechanically governed engine.
Course Activities and Design
This is an outcome based course utilizing a lecture/lab format. This course includes videos, assignments, demonstrations, lectures, and hands on learning. Course will be taught using Caterpillar equipment and curriculum.
