Course Description
Introduces full denture construction, processing technique, articulation, reline, repair, and rebase. Covers tooth anatomy as it relates to biomechanics. Audit available.
Addendum to Course Description
Students will work independently at assigned work stations.
Intended Outcomes for the course
Upon completion of the course students should be able to:
- Wax-up ideal and characterized full dentures utilizing full balance tooth setting techniques following proper angulation and degree setting for 30 degree denture teeth.
- Utilize proper ratios when mixing acrylics, process a complete denture from wax to acrylic, and then remount and finish the denture.
- Repair a broken denture and replace a broken denture tooth.
- Reline a denture by following standard procedures.
- Use proper anatomical terms to describe the features of an oral cavity.
- Read doctor's prescriptions in preparation for case instruction at an intermediate level.
- Communicate using the tooth annotation system fluently

Hours: 30- Wax-up ideal and characterized full dentures utilizing full balance tooth setting techniques following proper angulation and degree setting for 30 degree denture teeth.
- Utilize proper ratios when mixing acrylics, process a complete denture from wax to acrylic, and then remount and finish the denture.
Instructor will demonstrate and students will:
- wax-up ideal and characterized full dentures utilizing full balance tooth setting techniques.
- Measure gypsum and acrylic for denture repair and tooth replacement.
- Measure gypsum, impression materials and acrylic for denture reline.
- Measure gypsum, impression materials and acrylic for denture rebase.
Communication
Hours: 36- Use proper anatomical terms to describe the features of an oral cavity.
- At an intermediate level, read doctor's prescriptions in preparation for case instruction.
- Fluently communicate using the tooth annotation system.
- Use correct anatomical terminology at a more fluent level to communicate with lab technicians, doctors and supervisors.
- Follow doctors guidance when fabricating full dentures, as per the prescription and doctor's instruction.
- Communicate with doctors and supervisors at an intermediate level about possible changes needed based upon the physical limitations of the case.
Human Relations
Hours: 20- At an intermediate level, read doctor's prescriptions in preparation for case instruction.
- Fluently communicate using the tooth annotation system.
- Students work in teams to repair, and reline broken dentures.
- Team work in operation of dental lab sessions, the utilization of materials and maintaining infection control and safety.
- Understand the ethics of the dental professions when working with and communicating with doctors and dental staff regarding prescriptions and changes due to case limitations.
