Course Description
Continues the study of denture construction, including immediate dentures and over-dentures. Includes the use of articulators, finishing procedures, reline, rebase and repair techniques. Audit available.
Addendum to Course Description
Intro to immediate dentures and overdentures may be presented at the end of the term in preparation for the following term labs.
Intended Outcomes for the course
Upon completion of the course students should be able to:
- Articulate the history and philosophy of denture design and the construction of dentures.
- Identify and follow denture processing and postoperative procedures for full dentures, immediate dentures and over-dentures.
- Describe denture reline, repair and rebase procedures.

Hours: 22- Articulate the history and philosophy of denture design and the construction of dentures.
- Identify and follow denture processing and postoperative procedures for full dentures, immediate dentures and over-dentures.
- Use proper ratios for mixing gypsum and polymers.
- Use proper time and temperature for curing polymers.
- Use proper ratios and curing times when utilizing cold-cure polymers for repair procedures.
- Use weights and measures when calculating the amount of polymers to be used in an individual case.
Communication
Hours: 19- Articulate the history and philosophy of denture design and the construction of dentures
- Identify and follow denture processing and postoperative procedures for full dentures, immediate dentures and over-dentures.
- Describe denture reline, repair, and rebase procedures.
Utilizing direct instruction previously presented in DT 101, Students will:
- Prepare and present student discussion and answer follow-up questions.
- Collaborate, critique and discuss the student designed notebook on characterization of teeth.
- Follow industry standard instructions relating to specific materials and process.
- Follow standard guidelines for denture reline, repair and rebase procedures based upon the technique used in the lab.
- Learn how and practice billing for denture procedures.
Human Relations
Hours: 5Describe denture reline, repair and rebase procedure.
Collaborate with the Dentist and other health care team members in order to fabricate the appliance to meet each specific patient needs.
