Course Description

Fabrication of removable partial dentures with emphasis on framework design. Orthodontic appliances included. Audit available.

Competencies and Skills
 

  1. Demonstrate the processes and procedures of partial denture framework design and construction and the placement of artificial teeth into the framework.
  2. Discuss the uses and purposes of removable orthodontic appliances.
  3. Construct a maxillary removable plastic appliance according to specified instructions and criteria.
  4. Demonstrate correct soldering technique in a variety of applications.
  5. Construct the following pedodontic appliances according to specific instructions and standards: a maxillary holding appliance, a fixed mandibular lingual arch, and a habit appliance.
  6. Consistently apply safety procedures in the dental laboratory.

Demo ratios for mixing different gypsum materials for ortho models
Demo techniques of measuring angles and trimming models to ortho study model specifications
Students pour models in gypsum and trim models to ortho study model specifications

Demo measuring models for various ortho appliances
Demo techniques of applying measurements to wire cutting and bending for various ortho techniques
Students construct ortho appliances using proper ratios & measurements to place & form wires for tooth movement

Demonstrate mixing of different ratios of phosphate investment for refractory models and investing RPD wax patterns
Demo techniques of mixing investment for refractory models and investing RPD wax patterns
