Course Description

Introduces the implementation of programmable logic controllers (PLC). Emphasizes analysis of ladder logic used in industrial control applications. Includes an introduction to basic operation, programming, and troubleshooting of PLCs, switches and relays. Recommended: EET 242. Audit available.

Intended Outcomes for the course

Upon successful completion of the course students should be able to:

  1. Implement and troubleshoot wiring PLCs to I/O devices.
  2. Analyze ladder logic.
  3. Create new PLC programs.
  4. Troubleshoot PLC programs.
  5. Apply PLCs in basic discrete control applications.

Assessment methods may include midterm and final exams, homework, lab evaluations, and projects.
