Course Description
Intended Outcomes for the course
At the conclusion of this course, the learner should be able to:
1. State the meaning of a selected number of medical terms and abbreviations related to the following areas: word prefixes and suffixes, general combining forms, and all body systems.
2. Use appropriate medical terminology to describe selected patient care states.
3. Interpret selected examples of written documentation concerning patient care.
4. Value medical terminology as a useful system for communicating with other health care professionals about patient care.
Course Activities and Design
A lecture-discussion format that emphasizes learner participation will be used to present the course material. In addition, slides,case studies, puzzles and demonstrations may also be included.
Outcome Assessment Strategies
Student mastery of the lesson objectives are evaluated according to class participation and performance on written examinationsand projects.
