Course Description
Presents an analysis of interior design and furnishings from the 19th century to the present. Includes contemporary usage as well as the mixing of period furniture styles. Audit available.
Intended Outcomes for the course
Any student who completes this class will:
- Identify historic furniture and interior styles.
- Use research and presentation skills to inform others about historic interiors.
Outcome Assessment Strategies
- Compile a study notebook illustrating historic interiors and furniture styles of Western Civilizations. Use professional vocabulary to label illustrations.
- Demonstrate ability to recognize and analyze historic interiors and furniture by taking two exams.
- Present a written and oral report of the design work of an influential interior/furniture designer.
- Participate/ contribute to class discussions

Skills:
- The student will develop the ability to analyze interior elements in terms of historic reference, line, pattern, color, motif and materials.
- The student will develop ability to use written, visual and oral presentation skills.
