Course Description
Addendum to Course Description
This course continues the work of ITP 120, emphasizing increased expressive and receptive fingerspelling and number skills in context. The course focuses on developing clarity and fluency suitable for interpreting, rather than conversational purposes, and on using fingerspelling and numbers in interpretations.
Intended Outcomes for the course
Upon completion of the course students should be able to:
- Comprehend fingerspelled words and numbers in context, as presented live and on videos by both familiar and unfamiliar signers, with 70% accuracy.
- Use clozure skills as needed to determine semantic content of fingerspelled words.
- Produce cardinal numbers one to one million accurately and without hesitation, independently and in context, with 70% accuracy.
- Produce fingerspelling and numbers accurately and without hesitation, independently and in context with 70% accuracy.
- Produce and interpret short narratives which include fingerspelling, lexicalized fingerspelling and numbers with clear, accurate, and fluid articulation, incorporating them in context with appropriate prosody.
Course Activities and Design
In class activities may include student presentations, games, real-world experiences, drills, and interpretation of brief passages which require the fingerspelling or numbers.
Outcome Assessment Strategies
Assessments will be done by means of quizzes for receptive skills and recording expressive skills. Articulation will be evaluated for its appropriateness to interpreting, rather than for conversational use.
Course Content (Themes, Concepts, Issues and Skills)
Themes for presentations and quizzes may include current and historical events, technical subjects, financial information, place names, and others as appropriate. Expressive and receptive skills will include rapid, careful, and lexicalized fingerspelling; quantifiers and approximations, time numbers, money numbers, addresses, telephone numbers, and measurements.
