Course Description
Intended Outcomes for the course
Upon completion of the course students should be able to:

Produce a meaning-based, simultaneous interpretation of the main points with supporting details of a given source message within the context of a specialized setting common to post-graduation employment.

Conduct self-assessments and peer-assessments to identify current skill level and develop an individual plan for improvement.

Describe the logistics, best practices, and special considerations of interpreting in special settings common to post-graduation employment.
Course Activities and Design
Students will perform simultaneous interpretations on topics common to specific fields of interpreting. Students will discuss and demonstrate best practices for each field of interpreting. Students will continue to learn self-assessment and peer-review techniques to further become aware of patterns in their own skill development.
Outcome Assessment Strategies
Students will be evaluated through assignments, in-class performance, quizzes, and formal evaluations of recorded ASL-to-English and English-to-ASL interpretations. Students will be assessed on their ability to produce a grammatically correct, simultaneous, meaning-based interpretation of a source message.
Course Content (Themes, Concepts, Issues and Skills)
This course will cover the following topics:
- Simultaneous interpreting in specific settings such as and higher education, VRS, and religious settings.
- Best practices and policies in specific fields of interpreting.
- Analysis of context, purpose, purpose and register of both English and ASL messages in a given field of interpretation.

- Students will learn how to quantify the accuracy of their interpretation.
- Students will calculate the percentage of their accuracy in their interpretations of main and supporting points.
- Students will use their scores to detect patterns in their processing skills.

- Prepare and submit a written self-analysis of their interpretation and their skill development weekly.
