Course Description

Introduces the basic operation and setup skills used on a computer numerical controlled (CNC) router. Requires an understanding of common CNC mill or CNC router "G" code that operates these machines. Audit available.

Addendum to Course Description

Requires basic Windows based computer operational skills literacy.  Student must be proficient in CNC milling or CNC router "G" code review and application.  Students will propose and complete project work to support theory skills.  Instructor approval required.

Intended Outcomes for the course

Upon completion of the course students will be able to: 

  1. Apply fundamental CNC router machine setup and operation to produce machined parts within required tolerances.

  2. Apply CNC router "G" code in the manufacture of parts and projects.

Course Activities and Design

MCH 282 – CNC Router Operation will be presented by means of CNC router setup and operation demonstration, and student project experiences to manufacture CNC routed products.

Outcome Assessment Strategies

Students will be assessed on the quality of completed CNC router projects proposed by the student, and agreed to by the student and instructor.
