Course Description

Introduces the features and functionality of Rhinoceros (Rhino), a NURBS modeler. Covers common commands and drawing capabilities of Rhino, including design, model editing, model properties, graphic rendering techniques, and creation of 2D drawings. Explores both 2D and 3D modeling techniques using curves, solids, and surfaces. Audit available.

Addendum to Course Description

Students should have a general knowledge of operating standard applications under Windows.This includes logging into networks, launching applications, finding drives, managing files, and navigating menus and dialogs.

Intended Outcomes for the course

  1. Design and edit objects in 2D and 3D using Rhino CAD software.

  2. Create in wire frame, surface, and solid model formats.

  3. Render finished designs as realistic objects.

  4. Create 2D dimensioned drawings of models.

Course Activities and Design

Course will use computers and Rhino modeling software in a lab setting to complete assigned model designs and related activities.

Students will be assessed on completion of assigned training materials, application of skillsets taught in the course, and quality of model designs assigned

Skills obtained from this course will be:

  1. The ability to design 2D and 3D models using Rhino CAD software.

  2. Choose and apply appropriate design formats including wireframe, surfaces, and solids.

  3. Edit designs for new attributes.

  4. Portray resulting designs in both electronic and printed formats.
