Course Description

Introduces preparing video and audio for Internet playback, incorporating the principles of quality video and audio streaming techniques and technology. Introduces adaptation of video and audio segments for streaming using industry-standard digital editing and compression software. Covers cross-platform/cross-browser projects on both PCC-provided and publically available user-generated content (UGC) hosting services to be tested for performance on Macintosh and Windows computers using various browsers and players. Audit available.

Addendum to Course Description

Students who successfully complete this course will use digital editing software programs to develop practical"," optimized multimedia video and audio projects and deliver the content via streaming technologies designed for the World Wide Web.

Intended Outcomes for the course

Upon successful completion students should be able to:

Identify the unique considerations concerning playback and streaming of digital audio and video over the World Wide Web for multiple modes of media delivery.
Produce and present digital video and audio optimized for Internet playback by utilizing primary video and audio streaming formats.
Evaluate video and audio projects for quality and optimization for multiple modes of media delivery.
Relate standards, terminology," and techniques appropriate for a bestpractices approach to the changing stateoftheart of video and audio streaming.

Course Activities and Design


Course material will be presented in a lecture format. This course is designed to maximize learning through the use of strategies such as outcome based instruction, collaborative learning, contextual application and performance based assessment. Lecture material will consist of discussion, diagrams, multimedia, and other educationally sound practices. Other activities will include hands-on utilization of authoring and production software. Demonstration and handout materials will be provided.
 

Outcome Assessment Strategies


Assessment is designed to indicate achievement of the course outcome and performance tasks. The instructor will outline the methods used to assess student progress and the criteria for assigning a grade at the beginning of the course. Assessment will be based upon a combination of in-class participation, attendance, examinations, and quality of the multimedia project(s). Determination of problem solving skills, team work, and communication skills may also be included.
