Course Description

Provides both the tools and behavioral skills necessary to manage any project successfully. All steps of the project cycle are modeled with opportunities for participants to practice each step. Participants will learn to increase productivity, present a project activity plan using professional tools and develop project team building skills. Audit available.

Intended Outcomes for the course

  • Describe the step-by-step process for managing a project.
  • Define the three common categories of goals and objectives (strategic, operating, tactical).

  • Explain the importance of a feedback system for monitoring success.

Outcome Assessment Strategies

  • Given a sample project, demonstrate the project management process.
  • Describe the relationship between strategic, operational, and tactical goals and objectives and apply these categories to a sample project.
  • Explain the significance of designing a consequence system within the organization and apply this system to a sample project.
  • Apply learned skills through an outside project.

General Concepts
Successful project management includes strategic, operational, and tactical goal setting. Action plans set the direction, keep the project on course, and feedback systems are essential for measuring progress.
Themes
Projects need to support the mission statement or purpose of the organization, and establishing consequences helps to keep projects in focus.
Issues
Conflicts may arise between corporate goals and personal goals, as well as balancing production with quality issues.
