Course Description

Continues development of digital music technology skills for musicians and music majors. Covers live performance applications, mash-ups, visual object languages, interactive media, and artist development and production. Includes industry and independent artist marketing practices. Audit available.

Intended Outcomes for the course

Upon completion of the course students will be able to:

  1. Perform live music using digital music technology.
  2. Compose electronic music using a variety of conceptual and technical methods within the framework of identified stylistic practices.
  3. Create interdisciplinary music composition and/or performance using electronic music.

Course Activities and Design

  • Complete projects/electronic music compositions
  • Complete exercises for the purpose of learning the functionalities of various technologies within and beyond the music industry
  • Engage in group discussions and evaluations of musical and non-musical works created by established composers, artists and peers
  • Instructor demonstration of technology within a historical and cultural context
  • Create artist narratives commenting on the rationale for one's own process and work and its relationship with the processes and works of others
