Course Description

Beginning level, self-paced walking programs and a variety of conditioning exercises for specific body areas. Provides instruction for integrating walking into a lifetime fitness program. Audit available.

Addendum to Course Description

Student provides appropriate sport clothing activity. Sport shoes designed for walking are required.

  1. Warm-ups, cool-downs
  2. Target heart rate zone training
  3. Perceived rate of exertion technique
  4. Pace/speed setting for walking
  5. Components of fitness
  6. Appreciation and benefits of lifelong fitness
  7. Safety concepts


COMPETENCIES/SKILLS:

  1. Practice warm-ups, cool-downs
  2. Demonstrate correct exercises for individual program
  3. Apply components of fitness to beginning levels
  4. Apply present physical condition to appropriate walking levels
  5. Alter exercise choices for special weather and physical conditions
  6. Understand muscle charts in selecting appropriate /walking fitness exercises
