Course Description

Improves fitness through self-paced walking programs designed to increase the frequency and duration of regular workouts. Incorporate a walking program into a total fitness program for future use. Recommended: Beginning Fitness and Walking or average fitness level. Audit available.

Addendum to Course Description

Student provides appropriate sport clothing activity. Sport shoes designed walking are required.

  1. Warm-ups, cool-downs
  2. Target heart rate zone training
  3. Perceived rate of exertion technique
  4. Pace/speed setting for walking
  5. Components of fitness
  6. Appreciation and benefits of lifelong fitness
  7. Safety concepts


COMPETENCIES/SKILLS:

  1. Practice warm-ups, cool-downs
  2. Utilize appropriate routines for intermediate fitness levels
  3. Demonstrate correct exercises for individual program
  4. Apply components of fitness to intermediate levels
  5. Apply present physical condition to appropriate walking levels
  6. Alter exercise choices for special weather and physical conditions
  7. Understand muscle charts in selecting appropriate /walking fitness exercises
