Course Description

Expands application of the values and skills of Hatha yoga. Includes intermediate yoga exercises for increased flexibility, improved health, relaxation, and reduced stress in daily living. Recommended: prior class in Hatha yoga. Audit available.

Addendum to Course Description

Conducted as a learning-performing type class with outside individual research to enrich students' knowledge and skill. It includes teacher and student directed activity. Includes asana practice, relaxation practice, and videos to enrich learning. Each student will select a topic for further exploration and present a report to the class and a written report to the instructor. A Yoga textbook and a completed physician's exam report are recommended.

Intended Outcomes for the course

Upon completion of the course students should be able to:

  1. Improve physical conditioning related to flexibility through participation in intermediate-level Hatha yoga.

  3. Interpret and apply the benefits of yoga postures
  4. Personal application of Yoga philosophies
  5. Yoga in health care


COMPETENCIES/SKILLS:
 

  1. Practice warm up and cool down routines
  2. Demonstrate safety principles for asana practice
  3. Select asanas appropriate for personal needs
  4. Identify and apply relaxation techniques for stress reduction
  5. Perform group analysis of personal programs
