Course Description
Addendum to Course Description
The student will receive instruction on advanced imaging equipment which includes computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging, radiation therapy, nuclear medicine and ultrasound.
Advanced Imaging Modalities is required as part of the Radiologic Technology degree program. It is also a prerequisite for taking the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists examination for certification in Radiography. Transferability of credit depends entirely upon the institution to which the student wishes to transfer.
Intended Outcomes for the course
Upon completion of the course students should be able to:
- Describe physics fundamentals for computed tomography, magnetic resonance, nuclear medicine, sonography, and radiation therapy.
- Differentiate applications of each advanced modality for specific pathologies.
- Explain the advanced imaging routines and sequencing of exams in response to patient and staff inquires.
Aspirational Goals
Apply knowledge of advanced imaging technologies to make informed decisions about professional growth in the medical field.
Course Activities and Design
The student will be required to gather information about advanced imaging modalities by reading and summarizing professional journals, participating in assignments, guest lectures and group discussion, and observing advanced imaging modalities in clinic.
Outcome Assessment Strategies
1. Read and summarize a professional journal article regarding an advanced imaging procedure.
2. Write a report about how to obtain an advanced imaging certification.
