Course Description
Emphasizes conversational skills and listening comprehension at the second-year level. Recommended: Completion of RUS 202 or instructor permission. Audit available.
Intended Outcomes for the course
- Manages common day-to-day interactions in predictable setting, using basic vocabulary, present, past and future tenses.
- Applies language-learning skills.
- Recognizes and approaches cultural differences with respect and open-mindedness.

- Active participation in class
- Oral interviews with instructor
- In class, interactive student role-plays and other pair activities

- Russian superstitions and proverbs
- Professions and careers
- Hypothetical conditions
- Russian art
- Prefixed verbs of motion
- Comparative adjectives
- Imperative forms of verbs
- Conditional mood
- Subjunctive mood
Competencies and Skills:
- Gives commands, makes comparisons, describes routes, discusses professions in short paragraph lengh utterances.
- Manages more complex interactions in familiar situations covering a variety of topics in a culturally appropriate way
- Correctly uses aspect in both past and future tenses but not consistently
- Formulates more complex questions and answers
- Follows more complex directions
- Recognizes cultural differences
- Comprehends average speed native speech in a familiar setting.
- Makes himself/herself understood by a native speaker accustomed to non-native speakers.
