Course Description
Intended Outcomes for the course
Upon completion of the course students should be able to:
- Perform routine Catheterization Lab exams and patient care using fundamental skills and safety precautions.
- Participate as a team member in the workflow of a Catheterization Lab department.
Course Activities and Design
The student will be required to gather information and develop skills by observing and assisting the Cath Lab Technologist in examinations/procedures, patient care, safety, equipment manipulation, and infection control.

A. Complete VIR examinations (clinical competencies).
B. Complete the exercises in the clinical syllabus.

C. Infection Control, Vital Signs and Monitoring in the Cath Lab Environment

F. ASRT Code of Ethics, Patient Bill of Rights
G. Body Mechanics and Patient Transfer
H. Basic Cath Lab Equipment and Supplies
I. Image Formation and Reconstruction
J. Software and Hardware Components

L. Image Processing and Storage
M. Perform Basic Cath Lab Examinations
N. Evaluate images for image quality and completeness of exam
COMPETENCIES OR PROCESS SKILLS
A. Demonstrate safe patient transfer and carrier manipulation.
B. Communicate and interact appropriately with patients and other health care personnel.
C. Provide basic patient care
D. Practice Universal/Standard Precautions in the hospital.
E. Prepare Cath Lab rooms for exams and correctly operates Cath Lab equipment and image processors.
F. Practice behaviors that are consistent with the professions ethical standards and legal requirements.
G. Practice Cath Lab safety.
H. Obtain basic competencies and repetitions as required by ARRT.
